Marine biologists study the origins, behaviour, genetics and life processes of marine organisms.
As a marine biologist, you could be involved in:
Carrying out research in our seas and oceans to determine the environmental effects of land and water use on marine life;
Managing a marine wildlife reserve to protect marine life and encourage continued biodiversity;
Supporting the sustainable farming of finfish, shellfish and seaweeds, known as aquaculture, in order to meet the consumer demand for seafood;
Monitoring the effects of pollution, such as an oil spill or illegal waste dumping, on marine organisms.
Your work would support the protection and sustainable management of marine life.
