Robotics engineers design, develop and maintain robots, and conduct research into robotics and its potential. Robotics is essentially the branch of engineering aimed at inventing and producing automated machines – from industrial, agricultural to military and beyond – that are capable of performing predefined tasks with a certain degree of independence.
As a robotics engineer, you could focus on:
Designing and producing robots for hazardous tasks such as nuclear-safety operations or firefighting in dangerous locations such as collapsing buildings or confined spaces;
Creating independent robots for space exploration (like the Mars rovers) and for medical applications (surgical robots for example).
Your work would contribute to a both safer and more comfortable society as robots are often created to perform tasks too dangerous or dirty for humans.
